Who We Are …
Established in 2020 by Rob Beacock, Mantle is an architecture practice based in London.
Whilst our practice is new, our path is well trod. Since 2002 we have designed apartment buildings, youth hostels, independent hotels, a train station, affordable housing, mixed-use masterplans, a community centre, bespoke penthouses, one-off houses and extensions, public realm, student accommodation, a school pavilion, air-rights and oversite developments, holiday homes and commercial office buildings and workplaces.
We build long-term relationships with our clients, professional consultants and building contractors, because these relationships help us make better buildings.
We seek and encourage collaboration, drawing on the varied experiences of fellow architectural practices and the skills and knowledge of complementary designers, specialist fabricators, suppliers, craftsmen and artisans, to further refine and enhance our designs.
What’s in a name?
Our name defines what we make: a mantle is a cloak worn by an important subject; for us it is the envelope of our buildings, fashioned by skilled hands to make its subject at once conspicuous, comfortable, protected and beautiful.
It also defines our method of working: a mantle is a significant role or responsibility that ultimately passes from one person to another; for us it represents our handing over of the building (or its designs) to our client. We take ownership of our role in every project, whilst acknowledging our responsibility to that client and to whomever they might pass it on in the future.
