At Soho Housing Association, we appointed Rob to repurpose a compact office building in West Street, Covent Garden to a mixed use building to create two affordable apartments, a market rent penthouse and a retail unit. By understanding and navigating the constraints and challenges on design, technical issues and budget associated with change-of-use that could have potentially seriously compromised the spaces, Rob managed the project with imagination and creativity to make three stunning homes and an attractive retail unit. The professionalism and client relationship interface was excellent throughout resulting in a very successful scheme for Soho Housing.
We subsequently engaged Rob to author the ‘Soho Design Guide’ using West Street as a benchmark, which now defines Soho Housing Association’s approach to development, focusing on design organisationally, spatially, materially and technically. It is used as a brief to designers engaged by Soho Housing for both its direct developments and as a specification for contractors delivering it's s.106 homes.”
