Amesbury School Pavilion
*A project undertaken by Rob Beacock in his role as a Director at / Consultant to tp bennett
Amesbury School is a co-educational independent preparatory school on the site of Sir Edwin Lutyens’ only purpose-built school building. Marking the far boundary of the school, a tired prefabricated classroom has been replaced by a dramatic contemporary pavilion for teaching a wide range of visual arts.
Built predominantly of timber – much of it grown and sourced locally – this sustainable building embraces a mature Scots Pine that grows through its deck and eaves.
The building has received universal acclaim from children, parents, teachers and governing body. Headmaster Nigel Taylor commented: “Our boys and girls are educated ‘in the round’ so that they develop a real appreciation, understanding and hopefully even a love of the expressive arts. This building is the embodiment of that ethos.”
